Ylang-ylang essential oil

Description

Ylang-ylang is a very beautiful evergreen tree with silvery bark and large yellow flowers. It originates from the tropics of Indonesia and the Philippines, and in local languages, “ylang-ylang” means “to flutter.” Among the inhabitants of Southeast Asia, ylang-ylang is held in great esteem: its blossoms appear on the coat of arms of Mayotte and on the national flag of the Northern Mariana Islands. Beyond its economic importance, the plant is highly valued for its medicinal properties. Locals use ylang-ylang flowers to treat high blood pressure and skin conditions, and their enchanting fragrance calms and acts as an aphrodisiac. The flowers and essential oil are also used to scent sweets and creams. The plant is so highly prized that Indonesians cannot imagine weddings or religious celebrations without ylang-ylang flowers.

Worldwide, ylang-ylang is best known for its essential oil. The first extraction of ylang-ylang essential oil occurred in 1860, when Europeans noticed the flowers hanging across villages, resembling magnolias. By 1878, its fragrance caused a sensation at the Paris Perfume Exhibition. This marked the beginning of the cultivated production of ylang-ylang for essential oil. Today, perfumers value it for its rich, sweet aroma reminiscent of jasmine, used in top compositions with floral and oriental notes.

Uses in Cosmetology

Ylang-ylang essential oil is even more highly valued in medicine and cosmetology. Scientific studies confirm traditional knowledge, recognizing its strong antidepressant, anticonvulsant, and sedative effects. This essential oil also acts as an excellent antiseptic. Ylang-ylang oil is beneficial for heart and vascular conditions, helps normalize the menstrual cycle after hormonal imbalances, relieves headaches, and calms the mind. In aromatherapy, it is prized for its psycho-emotional effects: its aroma reduces anxiety and fear, alleviates emotional tension, evokes confidence, and brings feelings of creativity, love, and tranquility.

Cosmetologists appreciate ylang-ylang essential oil for its rejuvenating effects. It moisturizes the skin and nails, prevents premature aging, and stimulates renewal of deep skin layers at the cellular level. In the “Organic Cocktail” Wax formula, ylang-ylang essential oil demonstrated fantastic strengthening potential. After just a few days of use, nails become stronger and acquire a beautiful pearly shine. Ylang-ylang oil normalizes sebaceous gland function, moisturizes dry skin, and removes excess sebum. This softens and smooths the skin of the fingers, restoring the natural protective barrier against dryness and roughness. When combined with sweet almond oil, ylang-ylang essential oil polishes the skin and nails: it fills cracks, evens surfaces, and eliminates hangnails.
